If you look, you’ll see all sorts of subjects that are paying high profits.  Some of the popular ones include health, technology, weight loss, hobbies and marketing. If you haven’t yet decided which subject you want to dabble in for blogging or affiliate marketing, here are a few tricks and tips:

Choosing Your Niche

Are you passionate about a subject? Is there something you could endlessly learn about? If so, this might be a good niche for you because the more time you spend researching, learning and developing a niche the better your chances of attaining success and fulfillment.

Look at what’s out there. There are countless lists available talking about the most profitable niches. Read up on them and drill down until you pick a favourite.

Lookat free keyword search tools and see what you find in the news, on sites like Technorati which will make the tags for the most popular comments the biggest, Google Trends and Alexa which will give you a good inclindation of what people want to know about.

After you’ve decided on a starting point, you’ll find loads of information through websites and blogs and to get information delivered right to your e-mail box, consider using a tool like Google Alerts to send you messages about new information in that niche. This is also a great tool for keeping up with blogs you are interested in reading.

Blog Catalog or MyBlogLog

Joining Blog Catalog or MyBlogLog gives you access to another directory of blogs and people can find you in those directories. There are also some great widgets you can display to dress up your blog and by visiting other blogs in your niche, you can display your face on other blogs and entice new visitors.

Digg

Digg is a great tool for getting traffic to specific articles. By logging into the tool and submitting specific articles, you can bring traffic to your site. When you put a digg button on your post, you also get the bonus of letting your blog subscribers or visitors show their appreciation by giving you some social love.

Are You Pinging Your Blog Posts?

Free services like Ping-o-matic, Technorati and Pingoat are free services you can sign up to that let you let the world know you’ve updated your blog. Pinging literally ‘pings’ online services to say, “Hey, new content over here!”

If you tag your blog posts with relevant categories or keywords, people looking for information in cyberspace can find you based on those particular keywords. There are a lot of different social bookmarking and social networking tools you can use to help promote your blog.

Here are a few tips to help you optimize your blogging efforts:

  1. Do I have a catchy title? Will people want to visit my blog based on what they see in search engines or social marketing websites?
