Should You Optimise for More Than One Search Engine?

Sunday, August 24th, 2008
We all know that Google is the big one (for today, anyway) to work your SEO magic for but should you take the time to optimize for more than one search engine online? If you search key phrases on Google and on another search engine such as Yahoo you’ll often see rather different results.  Some people [...]

Getting Indexed Fast On Search Engines

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Page RankWhen you create a new website or blog, you’re anxious to see some results and if you don’t do anything to get noticed it could take time for the search engine spiders to find you and index you. Optimising for search engines will help you get indexed faster. Here are a few tips to help you get noticed quickly.

Submit Your URLS to Search Engines

Here are places where you can manually submit:

http://www.google.com/addurl/

http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html

http://search.msn.com.sg/docs/submit.aspx

Social Bookmarking

Go to sites like Digg, Stumbleupon and Del.icio.us and bookmark your site. These sites will bring traffic to your site as well. You can also get traffic and attention by trying to get noticed on places like Technorati, Twitter and Plurk. Be sure if you have other sites, you link from them to your new site thorugh blogrolls or link pages. Blog about your new site as well on your other online homes and write a few articles for article sites with links to your new site in the resource box. Spending a bit of time getting search engines to notice your website could shave days or even weeks off the process of getting organic search engine results.

Can Using Online Answer Sites Bring Me More Traffic?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Yahoo AnswersShould you use online answer sites to drive traffic to your website? Many people use sites like Yahoo Answers to try to increase their SEO value and sales. Today’s blog post will tell you how this can help you but it will also tell you about the potential associated problems with using sites like these to try to generate traffic to your website.

Using Yahoo Answers To Drive Traffic

Answer sites like Yahoo and others give users the ability to ask questions and other users the ability to answer them. You can use them to answer questions already posted and you can ask your own questions in an effort to raise interest in a specific topic.

If you search for questions related to your niche, you could reference your site or affiliate code in the answers section. This can increase your sales and SEO as many of these sites index in the search engines for anchored keywords.

Not only might people browsing those questions find you but you could also be indexed in the search engines for keywords in your post as well as the fact that the link to your site will count towards your search engine page rank.

Some of these sites have points associated with them that are awarded by the community, which can elevate your standing in the community and get you homepage placement.

Caution: Don’t Spam

Be wary of being banned for spamming if you use these sites excessively or push your links to others without good reasons.  The key to using these sites is to provide helpful information. You might choose to answer questions without always referring to your URL, for instance. Sometimes you might choose to refer to other URLs not owned by you to add extra value.

For example, if you are in the dieting niche you might choose to answer questions in that category. The same would apply to technology related questions for the technology niche. You wouldn’t want to simply push your url where it isn’t warranted. Refer to the terms of service when joining sites like these. These types of social networking sites can be helpful and useful if used wisely.

Search Engine Positioning – To Pay Or Not To Pay?

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Pay Per ClickA lot of people decide to take the free way to getting a good search engine positioning, using various strategies and techniques to make sure they get good organic rankings with Google, Yahoo and all the other big names out there.

Other people swear by the pay per click campaigns that are run by those same companies, giving them a better chance of appearing on page one of Google without having to wait to get indexed and climb the rankings as a result.

Organic or Sponsored Ads?

Do you prefer to get your search engine positioning the old fashioned way, with a bit of elbow grease and hard work? Or do you prefer to chuck a bit of cash at it and get some instant results?

In truth, one way isn’t necessarily any better than the other. Whatever way you choose to try and get a good search engine positioning, you will find that there are pros and cons to it.

If you go via the free route you will find you need to put in a lot of effort to get the search engine positioning you want. It could take months to achieve it, and even when you do you will have to fight hard to keep it.

The AdWords Campaign

Paying to take part in the AdWords campaign can bring you results within minutes of signing up. But it does of course cost money and if you aren’t careful any profits you might have made can be swallowed up in paying for all those hits.

It’s clear that whatever route you take to getting a better search engine positioning, you need to be aware of the pitfalls that can trip you up en route. Some people prefer the free way, simply because if they make a mistake all they will lose is a few ranking places. Their money is still safe. And, the benefit of organic search results can provide more viral marketing results than pay per click.

Welcome to SeanSEO.com

I have moved address from my previous Internet Marketing Blog at the Wealth Creation Affiliate website. It was time to take the whole Social Media concept a bit more serious and start providing some consistent, quality content for the readers (you). Considering my next target is to become the number one internet marketer in AustralAsia, I better start putting my money where my mouth is.

My aim is to provide you with a blog that gives you content without the “Big Sell”. That means:

  • No Adsense
  • No Blatant Ads
  • No In-Your-Face affiliate links
  • No insulting your intelligence

Blogging should be about giving away quality information online and the readers have every right to click away at any time they get bored. My aim is for you to come back, every day. Let’s hope I can do that!

You will see my latest books that I come up with but they will be available, casually in the sidebar. You will notice that most of the stuff I do is given away for free, anyway.

Every Day Content

Starting next week (June 2008), we will post articles about internet marketing every day of the week. I have joined forces with Dana Prince to make sure the postings happen every day. Enjoy the upcoming articles about SEO, Google, Yahoo, Marketing, Online Business and much more…

I’m Sean Rasmussen and my SeanSEO co-writer is Dana Prince.

We will see you back here very soon.

How To Write Winning Article Headlines

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

A popular practice among internet marketers is to use free articles sent to online article directories to generate traffic and sales for their products. This is also an internet marketing tactic used by Wealth Creation Affiliate and the associated affiliate program to gain exposure on Google, Yahoo and MSN. This all ties in with our SEO.

Arguably the most important part of these articles is the resource box at the bottom, which contains a link to the website or product that needs traffic. But for that to be of any use, people need to get that far in the first place.

For that to happen, you need to make sure you have a good title for your article. Don’t forget any articles you write will be competing with thousands of others, so you need to make a real effort to grab as many readers as you can. Internet Marketing can be very competitive.

Article Headlines Are Important

Practical features in your Article Headlines that can be of immediate benefit to the reader are a good bet, as are any ‘top tip’ style pieces. ‘5 Top Tips On Getting More Traffic’, for example would be better than ‘Good Ideas for Traffic Generation’.

Of course the content is just as important; it’s got to be able to deliver what the headline promises. But the more people you can grab with that title the better. I’d go as far to say you should spend almost as long working on an outstanding title as you should on the article itself.

The same applies to any articles or content you write. General articles for your website, copy for your marketing newsletter and even email titles all need to be tempting enough to entice people in to find out more. Think about how many websites are out there, and how many emails get sent every single day (that’s got to be in the billions, surely). That’s a heck of a lot of competition.

There is some good news though. Many Internet Marketing Experts make do with average standards. Don’t settle for second best. Stand out and be unique.

Do you want to up that to excellent standards? I thought so.

Practice your article headlines…
