How Many Goals Do You Have?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Every successful person in life has goals. That holds true for all walks of life – not just internet marketing. But internet marketing is such a broad area to get involved in that goals are almost a necessity to keep you going in the right direction.

Let’s face it

There is so much to see and do online, you could come up with a thousand goals and still not scratch the surface of everything you’d like to achieve in your business.

So we need to find a way to actually limit the number of active goals we have at any one time. If we don’t we are liable to get so bogged down trying to keep up with them all, we risk not achieving anything.

The number you should choose depends on how big each goal actually is. After all, if one of your goals is to create and develop your own website next year, that’s a pretty big goal to have. By the time you break it down into several achievable bite sized parts it will be enough to keep you going for quite some time. Anything else would be a distraction.

But if your main goal is to write a couple of promotional articles each week to raise awareness of your business, that won’t take too much time to achieve. It’s a case of keeping up the effort. So you’d benefit from having one or two more goals in this situation.

In short you need to consider what each goal or ambition involves, so that you can develop a plan of action to achieve it. By doing this you will ensure that you don’t have unrealistic expectations, which can only lead to disappointment.

So don’t make the mistake of assuming that more goals are better than just one or two – it really is size that matters in this case.

Feeling Bogged Down?

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Affiliate marketingThe nature of affiliate marketing means that you could be promoting at least a handful of different programs all at the same time. Each one needs a marketing strategy – how you will reach the right audience, how you will promote it on a regular basis, and so on. Small wonder some people find the whole process rather daunting. If you don’t keep a proper track of how each program is performing, not only do you run the risk of not getting the best from each one, you’ll also find you will start feeling bogged down and unable to work at your best.

The key to getting rid of this unsettling feeling is to break down each part of your business into chunks. If any task feels too big, break it down into manageable portions. Not only will this make it easier to tackle, it will also lead to better results, as you will have a much better idea of what is going on

How To Improve What You Are Currently Doing.

For example, let’s say you have an affiliate program that you are promoting through five separate methods. You are doing well with this program, but you have no idea which method is producing the best results, so you spend roughly a fifth of your time on each method.

What would you do if you found out one of those methods brought in maybe one sale every six months? Would you carry on with it? Of course not - you’d get rid of it and divide your time between the four methods that are working. Your efforts would be better rewarded and you’d have more time to devote to the ones that do bring in healthy sales.

So break everything into chunks. It will improve your ability to see clearly, and ultimately lead to more cash pouring into your bank account.

Value Via Email

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Building up an email list is an essential part of any internet marketing business.  Not only does it enable you to keep in touch with your customers, it also gives you a ready made audience to promote your business to. If you think about the email lists you have signed up to in the past, you’ll notice they all have one thing in common – and that’s value.  No matter what the subject is or who sends it, they must all have value otherwise you wouldn’t have signed up in the first place. Making sure your own email list receives value from you is therefore of paramount importance if you want to make sure your subscribers don’t start disappearing on you.  Remember, happy subscribers are much more likely to spend money with you.

You can add value in lots of ways, but one good method is to offer a free email course

Choose a subject that is relevant to your website and create a short course of articles on that subject.  Each part would then be sent to your subscribers in a separate email. It’s important to remember that you don’t necessarily have to promote anything in these emails; in fact it’s often better if you don’t.  But you should make sure you provide a link back to your website in every part of the course as this will encourage people to visit and have a look at what else you have to offer. The key word here is value.  You need to offer valuable and useful information in every email in order to get the best response possible for your mailings.  Keep them reasonably short but pack in as much as you can and edit out anything that doesn’t need to be there. Focus on keeping your email subscribers happy and your internet business will benefit enormously as a result.
