How Much Article Marketing Do You Do?

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Article marketing is one of the best ways to get some long term promotion for no cost at all. While that makes it a great resource for newbies to internet businesses, it’s also a form of promotion that is heavily used by experienced marketers who recognize its long term potential for driving huge volumes of traffic to their websites.

Article marketing is really a numbers game when you look at the potential it has. The copy doesn’t need to be exceptionally long – in fact you’ll do better if it runs to around 500 or 600 words ideally, as that gives the reader something to get their teeth into without keeping them engaged for too long. You want to give them something worthwhile to read – not something that’s novel length.

Your details will be temptingly displayed in the resource box at the bottom of each piece, so you can expect to receive some traffic from each session of article marketing you indulge in.

Good Form Of Promotion

That’s the beauty of this form of promotion – you get to decide how many pieces you write, and how much traffic you want to get. If your article marketing ensures that each piece is well written, has a good resource box, has proper keywords, and is submitted to a number of good sites that enjoy a lot of traffic, then you can expect to get a better reward for sustained effort.

Make it a pact to write and submit a set number of pieces every week and see what results you get. If you double that number, you can expect to get double the traffic to your website, so you can see that article marketing and the success it brings you depends a great deal on how much effort you put in.

So – how successful do you want to be?

Building Links Within Your Website

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Building links is often neglected but is important for your siteWhenever you visit any website about internet marketing, the one thing you are bound to read about is links. The more of them you can create between your own site and other related ones the better. But if you do this you might well be neglecting one area that it’s vital you get a good result in, and that’s building links within your website.

Search Engine Spiders

This is important because it makes it easier for the search engine spiders to find their way around your website. It’s your way of saying, ‘Hey look! My site has twenty pages (or however many it has) and here they all are!’ If you don’t give this message out by connecting all your pages together internally, there is a real chance that the spiders won’t see all your pages and only catalog those pages it finds.

Now this might not seem like a big deal, but think about it in more depth for a moment. Let’s say you have created a really excellent page on some aspect of internet marketing (assuming that’s the subject of your website) and you have filled it with properly researched and keyword information, as well as offering Google ads and other adverts for referral schemes and affiliated programs that you have a personal interest in.

Internal Links Make A Difference

If you don’t make it easy for the search engine spiders can’t find that page when they crawl your site, because you haven’t provided links to it from other pages, then there is a real possibility that the page won’t show up in search results whenever anyone looks up anything to do with internet marketing.

That’s how important internal link building is when you create new pages or develop the internal structure of your website. So make it a priority to get those links in place and watch the results.

How Is Your Search Engine Ranking?

Monday, May 26th, 2008

This can be something of an obsession with internet marketers of all shapes and sizes. It’s easy to understand why, because the search engine ranking of your site will strongly influence how well you do in the results whenever someone looks up a keyword or phrase which links to your website. While it is important to keep an eye on it to see how well your site is performing, it shouldn’t turn into something you end up checking twice a day every day. Your search engine ranking changes over time (hopefully for the better) and it does so as a result of what you do to change and develop your site – not as a result of you watching it like you would watch a plant that is starting to grow.

It’s good to develop routines when you start any new internet business, as routines help you to develop good habits and ensure that nothing important gets missed as part of your day to day progress. You can check various parts of your business and see how they are doing, and where some extra effort is required you can then look into how best to do that.

Keywords and finding your site

As you develop your business and learn more about keywords and how to make sure that people (and the robots and spiders that Google, Yahoo and others use) find your site, you should find that your website naturally starts to perform better. It takes time for any website to start figuring in the search engine rankings at all, let alone to perform well. No website gets to the coveted number one spot overnight, so be sure you don’t ask for too much when it comes to monitoring the progress of your site.

They say the best things in life are worth waiting for, and I think a higher search engine ranking definitely falls into that category.

Is Your Affiliate Site Too Big?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Big profits can come from having an affiliate siteOwning an affiliate site can be the key to big profits online. With proper care and attention you can find a range of products and services relating to a single interest, get your referral links in place, write some worthwhile content and put the whole thing together to start gaining traffic from lots of different sources.

What is the Problem?

The problem is, once your affiliate site becomes successful, it can fall victim to what made it a success in the first place.

You see, as you continue to develop your affiliate site you will come across other products you want to promote. They may complement the subject of your site, or alternatively they could start to go off topic a little. Not much, but enough to warrant another page on your site to deal with that topic.

And then off you go to find more products on that topic alone. Before you know it your affiliate site is getting rather too unwieldy to handle.

What’s the solution?

As soon as you notice your website is starting to split off into sub-divisions of the main topic, it’s worth starting to think about creating another website to deal purely with that. Because it is still related to your first website you can still link one to the other and benefit from the traffic you are already getting.

This is worth bearing in mind even while you have just one affiliate site to concentrate on. Watch for subjects that might be worth their own website, and think about how you could exploit them and build on the audience you already have. If you have built an email list of subscribers you can let them know about your spin off venture the moment it is launched… so you should even see visitors and sales very early into its new life.

If It Ain’t Broke…

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Don’t fix it? Isn’t that how the saying goes? Question is, does it apply to internet marketing? The problem is that the online world is moving faster than most of us can keep up with. Internet marketing is much the same. If you are currently promoting a particular affiliate scheme or product and it’s selling well, there is no guarantee it will continue to remain that way. New products and affiliate items are coming out all the time, ready to knock your success reeling.

That’s why you need to be on your toes and alert at all times

Even when your internet marketing efforts are paying off big time. Things can change so quickly that what works today may not work so well tomorrow.

Of course some things will probably always be popular, and the same goes for some long established websites that many of us use to raise awareness of our internet marketing ventures. But that doesn’t mean we should sit back and stop searching for the next big thing.

The danger with the online world is that it’s very easy to get comfortable with what we know, and settle into our own little corner where we’re familiar with all the knowledge we have and all the sites we know, not to mention all the ways we currently have of making money.

But why settle when there is so much more out there?

With one eye on what we’re already doing, we should all make more effort to look at what everyone else is doing; look for new horizons and goals to reach, and new areas of internet marketing to explore.

If we don’t there is a danger we’ll become narrow minded and forget why we ever went into internet marketing in the first place – which no doubt had something to do with wanting our own freedom.

Once you have that freedom, why not make the most of it.

How Open Minded Are You?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

If there is one thing that’s true about internet marketing, it’s the fact that there are more opportunities out there than you could shake a stick at. It’s probably not surprising then that after a while you can feel a bit jaded and start to become a little doubting of all the new opportunities that come along. They say there’s nothing new under the sun – but is there really anything new in internet marketing?

It can certainly be tricky to sort the wheat from the chaff, but it’s worth keeping an open mind because if you don’t you could miss out on something that might change your own internet marketing business for the better. You should particularly sit up and take notice when you see any e-book, product, software item or anything else that concerns a subject with which you are interested (assuming your business is based around a specific theme or topic that is). It could become a worthwhile addition to your internet marketing venture.

The point is that it’s very easy to become complacent

What we should all be doing is taking the time to carefully evaluate anything which seems to fit well with our own business objectives, to see whether it could be something our current customers may be interested in as well.

It’s understandable to become very critical of anything new – hardly even giving it a second glance on occasion – but if we let ourselves become too cynical we risk missing out on some of the biggest and best internet marketing products we might ever be able to lay our hands on.

So ask yourself, how open minded are you really?

Not quite enough perhaps? Even if you are successful at the moment, that doesn’t exclude you from the topic. After all, if you’re successful you either stay that way, or you don’t.

Are Your Free Articles Worth Reading?

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Drive traffic towards your website with free articlesFree articles are a great way to promote your business. Not only do they drive traffic towards your website or affiliate products, they also help to raise your own profile in the internet community. If you write and distribute free articles over a period of time, faithfully and continually, you’ll even become known as something of an expert.

What could be better?

Of course you are not guaranteed to get such a rousing response to your writing; it is up to you to make sure people view it in a positive light. To that end you need to be certain that your free articles contain useful, insightful or revealing information – and ideally all three.

The best way to do this is to start with a plan in mind. Instead of just writing the first thing that comes into your head, try asking yourself this question, ‘How will this piece help the reader, encourage them to maybe read some more of my stuff, and hopefully click through to my website as well?’

A little time spent planning is worth it when you get better results. Ideally everything you write should have a purpose, a reason for being written in the first place. Of course you will want to generate traffic and attract the attention of new customers, but you need to ensure that you have something worthwhile to offer them when they come.

In this sense you are better off writing half a dozen free articles of excellent quality than you are writing a dozen, where the only thing you are really worried about is how many keywords you have put in them. Why not give real value and show people that you know what you’re talking about as well?

If you manage to do this you’ll enjoy far more visits to your website as a result.

Read and Learn

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Don't get too wrapped up in your online marketingDo you ever get so wrapped up in your own business and online marketing efforts that you forget to look around you to see what’s going on elsewhere? It’s easily done, but it can harm your business if you don’t stay in touch with what everyone else is doing. That’s why it pays to stop and smell the roses once in a while.

Take time out from planning your next marketing campaign and have a look round the internet for a while. Let one click lead to another, one site lead to another and one source of information to yet another. You’ll learn from what you are reading and digesting; different ways of doing things might occur to you that are working for other people already.

The internet is never the same two days running

It’s great to stake out your own corner of cyberspace, but don’t ignore what everyone else’s little corner is like in the process. You might just be missing a trick somewhere.

Look out for what other people are recommending, whether it’s a product, a service or a way of doing something. It all goes towards building your knowledge and your experience of doing business online, and it can build your sales and visitors to a more healthy level as well.

You’ll also find you’ll be more aware of new developments in various different areas, and you can easily come across a new ezine that might be worth subscribing to. All the new knowledge you’re gaining will come in handy at some point, whether it’s to help you create a new product or website, or decide which affiliate scheme to sign up for.

So allocate some time to checking out what your competition is doing, and make notes of any good sites you come across. You’ll be surprised how much you can find out when you’re sitting back with a cup of coffee doing ‘nothing’.

Not Getting The Income You Want?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Who is? We could all earn more if we really put our minds to it. But if you started out in internet marketing to make a decent enough amount of cash to enable you to quit your day job, then it’s understandably frustrating when it doesn’t pour in as quickly as you’d hoped. This is when you need a plan of action if you want things to change – and it starts by looking at what you’re doing now.

First off, how many income sources do you have? You’ll get the best results online if you have plenty more than just one. Set up a website, set up a blog, monetize them both and link one to the other to drive traffic in between them.

How many affiliate schemes are you a member of?

Are you actively promoting them all, or do most of them get lost in the shuffle? It helps if you choose a number of affiliate schemes in the same area of interest, as it increases the chance of people seeing more than one product that they’d like to buy. If you promote them all on one website and provide plenty of extra information for them to use as well, then you’re giving them more reason to revisit your site and buy more in the future.

You also need to be devoting a reasonable amount of time to your endeavours if you want to get up and running quickly. You can’t expect to get started on ten minutes a day and have hundreds of dollars pouring in a couple of weeks later.

Your time will be rewarded later on though, so don’t become disheartened if you don’t see results straightaway. The best way to boost your income is to figure out what you really want to achieve and then concentrate on one thing at a time to see better results – and more money.

How Many Goals Do You Have?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Every successful person in life has goals. That holds true for all walks of life – not just internet marketing. But internet marketing is such a broad area to get involved in that goals are almost a necessity to keep you going in the right direction.

Let’s face it

There is so much to see and do online, you could come up with a thousand goals and still not scratch the surface of everything you’d like to achieve in your business.

So we need to find a way to actually limit the number of active goals we have at any one time. If we don’t we are liable to get so bogged down trying to keep up with them all, we risk not achieving anything.

The number you should choose depends on how big each goal actually is. After all, if one of your goals is to create and develop your own website next year, that’s a pretty big goal to have. By the time you break it down into several achievable bite sized parts it will be enough to keep you going for quite some time. Anything else would be a distraction.

But if your main goal is to write a couple of promotional articles each week to raise awareness of your business, that won’t take too much time to achieve. It’s a case of keeping up the effort. So you’d benefit from having one or two more goals in this situation.

In short you need to consider what each goal or ambition involves, so that you can develop a plan of action to achieve it. By doing this you will ensure that you don’t have unrealistic expectations, which can only lead to disappointment.

So don’t make the mistake of assuming that more goals are better than just one or two – it really is size that matters in this case.
